UW Finance Association was formed in May 2011 as the continuation of two established finance clubs, WIREX and UW Capital Markets Group.
WIREX was founded in September 2007 and was the first official FEDS finance club. Well known for its stock simulations and investment tutorials, it grew rapidly and expanded its reach to all faculties. It has had memberships of over 200 members per term and forged partnerships with many professors and members of the financial industry. UW Capital Markets was founded in September 2009. Through a variety of networking and career preparation events, the club aimed to expose members to available career opportunities in Capital Markets. Beginning May 2013, Bear and Bull Media Group began to operate under UWFA’s direction. The UWFA Research Team now assumes that role.
The organization was founded in February 2010, with the goal of being the leading organization that contributed relevant and reliable updates on business, economic, and financial news. Bear and Bull was the primary source for Waterloo students to check breaking business news and to follow the latest market trends through various research reports on a wide array of topics.
